Institutes for Systems Genetics
With the further development of precision medical science, molecular genetics mechanism and evolution will become the key to realize the the revelation of genetics mechanism and the innovation of technology. In February 2018, supported by West China Hospital, Institutes for Systems Genetics was officially established, aiming at integrating the existed biobank, supporting platforms of genomics, proteomics and metabonomics as well as the biomedical big data center in West China Hospital. By cooperating with experts in clinical medicine and basic medicine, our institute has been exploring the occurrence and development of human rare diseases’ genetic problem, promoting the cutting-edge research in medicine.
Anesthesia & Operation Center
The Department of Anesthesiology of West China Hospital, Sichuan University, was officially founded as an independent Department in 1978.It is the birthplace of the contemporary standardized residency training system in China. The medical level of the department is world-leading, and the accidental death rate from anesthesia is less than 1/300,000. It leads the development of visual anesthesia in China and innovates many visual anesthesia techniques worldwide. In terms of scientific research, the "Research on Inhalation Anesthesia" led by the department won the second prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2004; the patents for new anesthesia drugs account for about 1/5 of the patents in China. In 2018, the "Research on perioperative risk classification and differentiated management techniques for the Elderly" was funded by the National Key R&D Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The department's reputation and comprehensive strength have been ranked first in China for nine consecutive years in the list of best specialties in Chinese hospitals.
